SOUND CONTROL SYSTEM
DOCUMENTATION

CERTIFICATION
AND

We believe sound control should be a standard in best building practices. Our main mission is to install effective sound control systems, but also to raise awareness among builders and consumers that this is an important component to design and construction.

Bringing Standards and Regulation Where Currently None Exist

This is a new concept and service that we are currently testing out. Currently there are no city wide regulations when it comes to controlling sound. Some HOAs may require a minimum STC or IIC rating, and DCRA does suggest minimums, but there is 1) often no enforcement and 2) the minimums they suggest do not provide a comfort level most people would consider acceptable. We want to raise the standards, provide a resource for buyers and renters and provide builders with an incentive to incorporate sound control measures into every day construction practices.

So what can you do? Start by raising awareness.
1.
Current home owners, talk to your builders about incorporating sound control in your next project.

2.
Renters and buyers, start asking builders what has been done and stress it's importance to you.
3.
Wherever you can, suggest to friends and builders to incorporate sound control.
4.
Let people know there is a service offering third party inspections, consultations and documentation of sound control installations.

5.
Document the sound control measures taken. Invite us to visit your project at each crucial stage to take photos and inspect the work that has been done.

Documentation

We are currently working on what this will look like along with the documentation we will provide to builders, owners and future renters and buyers. Here's the short list.

Types of sound control systems installed
Which of the 4 Principles of Sound Controlled were used
Proper installation and any Limiting Factors
Integration with HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems
Types of sounds that would be expected to controlled with each system
STC and/or IIC lab test ratings expected from each system

Fees

Any project installed by District Sound Solutions will be provided with full documentation as part of the contracted services.

For contractors who would like their systems inspected and documented, fees will depend on the systems involved and how many anticipated visits will be needed for the inspections. Expect a range of $600-$800.
