Noise Abatement

Whether you live in a condo, a rowhome or a single family house, all homes are suceptible to unique noise invasions. The most common request for work comes from dwellers in existing structures, most often multi unit homes. With rowhouses being converted to condos at lightening speed, builders are sadly slapping things together with profit over homeowner happiness in mind. Subfloors and drywall ceilings are thin without thought to noise proofing, other than perhaps a layer of insulation, which is NOT going to get the job done. If you have a brick rowhome, there are also a host of intrusions from neighbors, street noise or family members and roommates. We'll discuss your individual concerns and draw up sound system plans so you can relax and binge on netflix in peace. We also offer window solutions to help cut down on street noise for a better night's sleep.

If you're looking to remediate an existing noise problem or are building for the future, District Sound Solutions can design and install sound control systems to address your particular areas of concern.

General Home Renovations :
Plan now for the Future

Whether you're doing a full gut or upgrading a room, it's a great time to assess noise control needs. Putting in a bathroom that neighbors a bedroom? Consider treating the walls to assure a slumbering partner or roommate isn't disturbed before their alarm goes off. Are you redoing your floors? We advise you to treat flooring surfaces now, because you never know if you'll put a basement apartment in some day and now is the time to do it to save time, money and anguish. Do you have loud neighbors or are you noisy and want to make sure your sound stays in place? Treating party walls and floors makes great neighbors. As with anything, get us involved early as we may also be able to help with the other systems in your home to achieve your sound goals.
Basement Units

Basement units have become all the rage in DC. With rising mortgages, more people are putting in basement dwellings to help pay the bills. Most of our business comes from homeowners who already have basement units with unhappy tenants, often in homes that they purchased as a flip. Music, voices and televesion sounds are common complaints, but the number one problem is impact - footfall. Prevention is the best medicine, and if your basement is not yet renovated, GREAT. Let's talk about the plan now. If it's already completed and you need to make improvements, let's chat about possible systems for remediation.

Pop- Ups and Additions

If you are planning on adding any new construction to your home, now is the time to think about sound control. Framing, materials and construction methods along with the trade plans for electrical, plumbing and ductwork all influence sound quality within your home. Get us involved early and we will work with you to identify important areas of your home to isolate, as well as talk about possible plans for needs in the future. We will coordinate with your other trades to come up with sound plans and get your system installed. Installing sound attenuation systems during new construction is BY FAR the easiest, most economical and most effective.

Already have a contractor and trades?
You can hire us directly or if required by your contracted build team, they may hire us as subcontractors. Regardless of the arrangement, we will communicate directly with them regarding the construction schedule and work with them to develop system plans for your project, taking a close look at the HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems as well as general construction and framing plans.

We will be on site to install the chosen sound control systems from prep to pre-finishing. At the minimum, for wall and ceiling systems, we will install through hanging drywall and for floor systems, installation of the subfloor.
